EGM Update

Following an EGM on 23 October 2018, WADAA members voted unanimously in favour of moving the Club to Incorporated status (Ltd Company).

The Committee would like to thank all members who took the time to fill in and return the questionnaire. These will provide information that will help inform our policy moving forward.

What a load of RUBBISH

Just to remind everyone fishing on one of WADAA waters, that it is your responsibility to take home all discarded line and general waste. This means that if you brought it, you take it home.

Summer time fishing

I am sure it is no surprise to you that the trout fishing at the moment can be tough! With the water temperatures being so high, it can cause the fish a huge amount of stress hence why they appear to be uncatchable at times. Imagine if you were locked in a hot room all day every day, you wouldn't be that fond of chasing a big colourful feather around either.

For the best results fish early in the morning or late at night, anglers that have been doing this have had some great sport. If you do go in the middle of the day, be prepared for the fishing to be very tough! The best way to get them at this time is to go deep but with small imitative patterns.

With this in mind, we ask you to please treat the fish with maximum respect. This means if you plan to return the fish, you DO NOT take the fish out of the water! if possible try not to touch them, but if you have to then please wet your hands first. All fish should be brought to the net as quickly as possible then released or kept. Do not overplay the fish causing them to become exhausted, if you do this they will die.

Stocking is temporarily on hold until the water temperatures drop to ensure that the fish currently in the lake don't get stressed and this reduces the risk of disease. Stocking will resume as soon as the water temperatures drop again. There are still lots of fish in all of the lakes you just need to pick your time to fish and be adaptable to the conditions. So far this year we have stocked over 1600 fish! this is on top of the existing stock so there are plenty of fish to be caught.

As stocking has been put on hold. We are extending the stocking season this year to extend into November this should continue the high quality of fishing well into the back end of the year.

All Change at WADAA

All change at WADAA

The last few months have seen major changes at WADAA. Club manager Neil Birkinshaw has retired after more than a decade in the post, and WADAA chairman Dave Helm, with whom Neil has worked closely throughout this period, has vacated his post. In spite of these changes, the club remains in a financially healthy position and has a strong Committee, committed to the future of the club, who are determined to make a success of this transition period.

In the medium term, Mrs Joanne Atkinson has taken on the administrative aspect of the managerial role. Joanne has extensive professional experience in management and administration, and is married to, and the mother of two keen anglers. Joanne will be working from her home in Yealand, and can be contacted by email at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or in an emergency call 07488534113.

It would be greatly appreciated if members wishing to communicate with Joanne on non-urgent matters refrain from doing so for the time being. We would like her to concentrate on bedding-in to her new role.

A suggestion for 2018

Club rules state that members should always carry their club membership cards with them whilst fishing. But we're not all perfect. Jackets and tackle bags get changed around, and on occasion members can end up setting off to fish without their cards.

We are rarely without or mobile phones, however, so why not take a photo of your membership card and keep it permanently on your phone? And maybe do the same with your Environment Agency rod licence.

However, WADAA bailiff Jim Duncan would like to remind members that the club rule that they carry their permits whilst out fishing is still in place. The suggestion that you keep a photo on your phone is just to make life a little easier for both bailiff and angler in the event of a genuine mistake being made on the anglers part. Jim is perfectly entitled to ask further questions to establish whether an angler is a bona fide member.

First stocking of 2018 re-scheduled

As a result of the bad weather, the first stocking of WADAA waters for the 2018 season that was unavoidably cancelled last week, will now be taking take place this week.
