Exchange tickets

As our most of our members will be aware the club has significantly increased the fishing opportunities for the 2019 season.

We are running exchange tickets with Appleby Anglers. These will be available from the 15th of March and give 2 members per day, access to all of the Appleby Angling water. Please refer to their website for more details on beats. These tickets must be requested and confirmed by the Association Officer in advance of your planned visit.

We also have corporate tickets on the River Eden at Kirkby Stephen. This gives WADAA 2 tickets per day to allocate to our members allowing them to fish all of the Kirkby Stephen water, which is detailed on their website. These will be available from the 15th of March. The tickets must be requested and confirmed by the Association Officer in advance of your planned visit.

As members, you will also be able to fish off the bank (7 hours) at Stocks Reservoir for free. This is on a limited trial basis and must be booked in advance with the Association Officer. There will also be a discount on hiring a boat, this must be booked through the fishery.

All of these arrangements must be booked and confirmed through the Association Officer by email in advance, prior to your visit.

Just to remind everyone fishing on one of WADAA waters, that it is your responsibility to take home all discarded line and general waste. This means that if you brought it, you take it home.

Summer time fishing

I am sure it is no surprise to you that the trout fishing at the moment can be tough! With the water temperatures being so high, it can cause the fish a huge amount of stress hence why they appear to be uncatchable at times. Imagine if you were locked in a hot room all day every day, you wouldn't be that fond of chasing a big colourful feather around either.

For the best results fish early in the morning or late at night, anglers that have been doing this have had some great sport. If you do go in the middle of the day, be prepared for the fishing to be very tough! The best way to get them at this time is to go deep but with small imitative patterns.

With this in mind, we ask you to please treat the fish with maximum respect. This means if you plan to return the fish, you DO NOT take the fish out of the water! if possible try not to touch them, but if you have to then please wet your hands first. All fish should be brought to the net as quickly as possible then released or kept. Do not overplay the fish causing them to become exhausted, if you do this they will die.

Stocking is temporarily on hold until the water temperatures drop to ensure that the fish currently in the lake don't get stressed and this reduces the risk of disease. Stocking will resume as soon as the water temperatures drop again. There are still lots of fish in all of the lakes you just need to pick your time to fish and be adaptable to the conditions. So far this year we have stocked over 1600 fish! this is on top of the existing stock so there are plenty of fish to be caught.

As stocking has been put on hold. We are extending the stocking season this year to extend into November this should continue the high quality of fishing well into the back end of the year.

We are keen to improve the fishing experience for our members and feel that mixing the type and size of the current stock, is a good starting point.
